  • 4 Shame & Inspiration

Hi Jasvinder I start reading your story at 6pm last night and I finished reading the whole book to day. Your story is so true to some of the whispers I have heard. I am a West Indian Lady and your story inspired me so much. I must say I have learnt something from reading your book. It is a part your struggle that over shadows my life and your willigness to achieve. I can in some small way relate to little part of your story. I married a west Indain man from Jamaica, I though it would have pleased the family to know I actually went back to the land of my parents and chose a match but instead of open acceptance I was faced with rejection and humiliation and it is so hard to try to reacht the stubborn people in our lives. It did not stop me from trying with marriage but five years after my marriage a son my husband walked out on me. That was just added embarrasement for me, but I keep soldering on. I am studying to become a practice manager ans at times I do feel like giving up but the termination to prove my worth and my children I try to motivate my self to pull through. My lonly nights seems never ending and my heart aches so much to bond with my family. Dispite all my tials and tribulation I try to hold my head up high It is all but being proud is all have left beside my children. I admire you for your willingness to fight for what you believe in and to be strong at the same time, I had a muslim fried who was taken to pakistan to be married off just like many of the ladies in your book, but before she left she told all of us at work this is what she suspected her parents was about to do and she said if she did not retrun to England in 1 month expect he worse, she woud be married and there maybe a possibility she may not return to the UK for a ling while. within two weeks she was back in brittain, she had trick the old lady they called Auntie to leave her in the house alone saying she was il, she paid a little boy to lend is bycicle and she rode to the british high commisioner's office and report her past port stolen. She had scrbbled down her pasport number so she was able to give them that information, she was able to fly back to the uk on a temporary passport. She is now married with three children two girls and one boy The only thing his her husband is not asian he his west indain, she wanted to teach her family lession so she took drastic step. It was not easy to begin with but her determination to find her own path go have gone real bad for her but she survive the warth of her family, she is very strong willed and she had a strong minded black muslim west indian was willing to take on the whole family and the community is need be. The are now accepted by the asian community her father was the unforgiving one but he soon came round after she gave birth to her son. The got to the same temple as her parents ans she is now accepted by the most important pople in her family her mother and her father. Like you her sisters arn't so forgiving.you keep up the good work my blessing is with you.
